This is CRAZY! The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has published an in-depth article that I can hardly believe. Apparently “No Cost” License Plate Readers Are Turning Texas Police into Mobile Debt Collectors and Data Miners for unpaid municipal fines. If that weren’t bad enough: getting pulled over due to an outstanding municipal fine results in a bit of a Faustian bargain — pay the fine, now with a 25% “fee” attached or be arrested.
